Exploring Place and Identity in Writing

Me and Meg in Japan, 2019

About

Hi, welcome to my website.

I’m a writer based in Australia. I currently live in the capital city, Canberra. I’ve previously lived in Brisbane/Meanjin, London, Norwich and Medway. I grew up in Medway, and still feel a strong connection to the place. My first novel is called ‘Medway’. I’ve written several short stories and poems that are set there. Place is very important to me and my writing. Places shape our psyches in interesting and surprising ways. They stay with us long after we’ve moved on from them physically. We can briefly visit a place and feel an immediate connection (or repulsion). Sometimes we even feel attached to places we’ve never been to, because they’re locations featured in films, books and art that we love. I try to explore these ideas (and others) in my writing.

Books

Jamie Sinclair is a bipolar ex-chav, an impostor knocking at the door of the middle class. On a whim he decides to leave his toxic relationship and move back to his parents’ house, to see if his hometown can fix him. But three questions need to be answered:
Can he be fixed?
Can a place fix someone?
And what does it mean to be fixed?
